It was with some satisfaction that I read Sinosplice's take on milestones in language acquisition some months ago. I didn't have everything on the list, but I'd done enough to feel confident in my Chinese ability. Actually, I think that I became *too* confident, and angered God with my arrogance. In retribution, God arranged for me to play the word game jie long (接龍- Connect Dragon?) with my seven year old nephew yesterday. Urgh. My Chinese sucks and my nephew thinks I am an idiot.
