Happy Anniversary

Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition- Release date October 23, 2008
To celebrate the 50-year anniversary of Avalon Hill, Axis & Allies is launching its most expansive game ever. The Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition will feature the debut of Italy as the third Axis nation, the introduction of the cruiser unit to the naval lineup, and the largest Axis & Allies board to-date measuring 24x46 inches. With over 600 pieces, players will be able to recreate and decide the outcome of WWII like never before. The Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition is designed and developed by Larry Harris, the original designer of Axis & Allies, and will release on October 23, 2008.

The new rules (as best known so far) are posted on the Axis & Allies.org forums.

The good: Formosa is now on the map, eliminating the need for Michael Turton and I to send dozens of angry letters to Avalon Hill.

The bad: Formosa is only worth 1 IPC, the same as Okinawa. This will necessitate the writing of several dozen angry letters to Avalon Hill.

The interesting: The new tech rules. Maybe we should toss out current tech development (20/10) and use theirs.

Italy as a separate nation...gee, a special round just for Africa action...and can German units already there cooperate?

It might also throw a lot of UK invasion threats off and severely affect fleet unification.

Formosa at 1 IPC might be about right. At the most 2 IPC. I mean Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia is only worth 3 when they had more raw materials like rubber, etc. going for them.

Okinawa at 1 IPC seems to be the problem really...unless they had enough Japanese population to help with Japanese manpower issues.

Then again, Taiwan also was a manpower source.

or do IPC also represent strategic shipping lanes, etc...Egypt probably didn't make much war material but the suez counts for something?

Red A

Looking at the map I can't see how Japan can put any pressure on Russia until turn 5 at the earliest.
