There has been much scurrilous scuttlebutt going around Taichung concerning the legal status of FM. In order to get the straight dope for my readers, I made the great sacrifice of going to FM last night and drinking beer. Coronas are two-for-one on Thursday nights anyway, so that kind of facilitated my journalistic endeavor. Here is what we learned:

FM is not closing, not any time soon anyway. Start working on your Halloween costume.
Yes, the police and building inspectors showed up to inspect and serve notice that the structure is illegal. Discussions were and are being held.
Mikey Mike categorically denies spraying the building inspectors' car with .45 APC rounds from a MAC-10. In Mike's own words "I have always found the MAC-10 to be a cumbersome weapon, and difficult to control. I prefer the Beretta."
The total number of illegal structures in Taichung is 50,000, unless it is another number that also has five digits.
Mike did not 'body slam' the police chief: "It was more like a noogie."
There is no connection to FM's legal situation and Taichung City Hall burning to the ground yesterday. Mike says he was in Geneva at the time, and anyway, how would a foreigner get access to that much white phosphorus?

Stuff I thought was funny:

Dave Barry calls this guy Educator of the Year, and suggests that if the video is authentic, that the professor should be given the Nobel Prize. I suggest Sainthood.

Scott Adams once again shows his mastery of geopolitical bits and pieces here.

Ahem, ".45 ACP".

Oh man, that's not even a typo. Just a reminder that I haven't been on a range since 1997.

Kind of kills the whole joke, really.
