When talking about the man-made waterway that extends from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean through the nation of Panama, do not call it the 巴拿馬水溝
運河 [yùnhé]. Got it. "Canal" is different than "ditch".

I didn't laugh.
Imagine that you have a friend who is not a native speaker of English, but speaks with almost no accent and only occasional grammar goofs. Then one day he's going on about something and he says: Take for example, the Panama Ditch... "
That's what I did, and you are right. It is not the least bit funny. And any wife who truly loved her husband would not laugh at him for such an innocuous mistake.
I would have laughed if I was there.
