Jesus and Venom: A Dialogue on Forgiveness
The scene opens in a quiet corner of Central Park at twilight. Jesus sits peacefully on a bench, his presence radiating calm. Venom emerges from the shadows, his massive black form towering over the seated figure.
Venom: Tilting his enormous white-eyed head We know who you are. The one they call the Prince of Peace. Yet you seek audience with a monster.
Jesus: Looking up with gentle eyes I see no monster here. I see a being in pain, carrying anger like a heavy burden.
Venom: Letting out a low, rumbling laugh Pain? We are pain. We are vengeance incarnate. Spider-Man destroyed our life, cast us aside like garbage. He deserves to suffer as we have suffered.
Jesus: Tell me about this suffering, my friend.
Venom: Crouching down, still looming large Friend? A bitter edge creeps into his voice We were Eddie Brock once. A journalist with dreams, with purpose. Spider-Man exposed our sources, ruined our career, left us with nothing. Then we found each other—Eddie and the symbiote—two outcasts, two beings rejected and abandoned.
Jesus: Nodding with understanding Rejection cuts deeper than any physical wound. I know something of being cast out, of being misunderstood.
Venom: Leaning closer, intrigued despite himself You? But they worship you, follow you.
Jesus: Not all. Many rejected my message. My own people handed me over to be crucified. I felt the weight of abandonment, even cried out asking why I had been forsaken. Pausing But in that darkness, I learned something about forgiveness.
Venom: Standing back up, agitated Forgiveness? You speak of forgiveness to us? Spider-Man took everything!
Jesus: And what has your hatred given you in return?
Venom: Silence for a moment, then quieter ...Purpose. Identity. We are defined by our opposition to him.
Jesus: But is that truly living? To be defined only by what you oppose, never by what you love or hope for?
Venom: The symbiote seems to shift and writhe We... we loved being a reporter. We wanted to help people, expose the truth.
Jesus: That calling is still within you. But vengeance has become a cage, keeping you from becoming who you were meant to be.
Venom: Struggling with the words Even if... even if we wanted to forgive, how? The anger, it feeds us, gives us strength.
Jesus: Forgiveness isn't about forgetting or pretending the hurt never happened. It's about choosing not to let that hurt control your future. It's about breaking the chain that binds you to your pain.
Venom: Sitting heavily on the ground, now eye-level with Jesus But what of justice? What of making him pay?
Jesus: Justice and vengeance are not the same thing. Justice seeks to heal and restore. Vengeance seeks only to wound. Which do you think your city needs more of?
Venom: Long pause, the white spider symbol on his chest seeming to pulse We have protected innocents. We have stopped those who would prey on the weak.
Jesus: Yes, and in those moments, weren't you more than your hatred? Weren't you more like the reporter who wanted to help people?
Venom: Voice becoming softer, more conflicted The symbiote... it remembers being rejected by Spider-Man too. We amplify each other's pain.
Jesus: And you could amplify each other's healing instead. Two beings who understand rejection could choose to offer acceptance to others. Your shared experience of pain could become a source of compassion.
Venom: Standing slowly You ask us to let go of the very thing that made us who we are.
Jesus: I ask you to become who you were always meant to be. The anger made you powerful, but forgiveness will make you free. And sometimes, freedom is more valuable than power.
Venom: Looking toward the city skyline where Spider-Man swings between buildings We... we will consider your words. But old wounds do not heal quickly.
Jesus: Standing and placing a gentle hand on Venom's massive arm No, they don't. But every journey begins with a single step. And you don't have to walk it alone.
Venom: Nodding slowly, then beginning to fade back into the shadows Perhaps... perhaps we will try to remember Eddie Brock the reporter, not just Venom the enemy.
Jesus: Calling softly as Venom disappears Remember—forgiveness isn't weakness. It's the bravest thing any of us can do.
The park falls quiet, save for the distant sounds of the city and the gentle rustle of leaves in the evening breeze.
