So does this mean...

...that Wayne Lapierre is going to demand an armed cop on every fire truck? If so, I'm going to recommend that America starts parking its fire trucks at elementary schools. Two birds with one stone and all that.

But wait! When the armed cop goes to work, who will protect his family from madmen?

I demand an armed cop at the house of every armed cop.

All this talk of armed guards...isn't that what the police are for?

Oh, and just wait until one of the armed guards snaps...then we will have guards guarding the guards.

I supposed robot sentry turrets will eventually solve these problems cheaply.

Aside from my lifelong determination to take away Robin's guns*, I'm not particularly hostile to gun rights. But from a marketing or P.R. viewpoint, I think Lapierre's response was spectacularly bad.

*And his smokes, and any cupcakes he has lying around.

Can we ban the guns after I get to buy my first gun?

This is starting to feel like college, where they stopped serving free beer on Friday events right before I turned 21.

Yes, Karl, it was a bad PR move for Wayne Lapierre to make a suggestion that no one but a gun nut had ever made before ...

And he was ridiculed for the idea by David Gregory, a man who would never send his kids to a school with armed guards.

Oh, and that magazine that David Gregory waved around? Illegal in D.C. where his show filmed.

But it was LaPierre who was the PR disaster ...

Yes. It was simply bad marketing, any way you look at it. In the same way that posting Breitbart links is bad marketing.

He ends up convincing no one, and makes what should be a defensible position look like kookstuff.
