Obviously if you knew/remembered some basic rules about gears and pulleys it would have been helpful.

Also, didn't know about the electrical circuits...

Gears: I just figured the little ones would spin faster because they have less distance to move. I also guessed that they would reverse the other gears direction depending. Maybe I don't deserve the 70% score.; 3:18 PM
