3D Printing

I haven't followed this, and don't quite get the technology of the 'printer' side of things. Sounds like a science-fiction fabricator to me. But if 3D printing's proponents keep advocating it with examples like this:

I'm going to take a pass on the whole thing. Or crawl into a bunker. Or something.
