I was just thinking that, too.
Bashing the Embassy or State is fun, but Chen could be a flake, too.
Which means this will be a really exciting trainwreck featuring incompetence, flip-flopping, wishful thinking, brutal craven self-interest, and reality.
Right. The thing is, you know where you stand with corrupt murderous dictators. But flakes screw up the whole calculus.
Qaddafi, he combined both flake and corrupt murderous dictators. That was his genius.
And just because he's a total flake, blind, heroic activist does not mean that the Obama administration's "smart diplomacy" does not resemble a Marx Brothers' movie highlight reel.
In context, there has not been a U.S. administration in my lifetime that has handled China well. Except maybe Lyndon Johnson's, which I honestly don't know much about.
And nothing is worse than elder Bush's actions in '89.
In context, in 1989 a Chinese dissident stayed 6 years in our embassy before being allowed to go to the USA.
I wonder if they told Chen that to encourage him to leave. That would sure encourage me to think twice. Not if I would be jailed in
China or shot, though.
Also, the last two presidents have done a decent job keeping China involved with North Korea, which must make everything else be a royal PITA.
