Russia and Georgia are throwing bad. I planned on staying ignorant, and just supporting whoever the media portrayed as the good guys, but Michael Turton screwed that plan up by sending me a bunch of information-packed links. I swear, that guy. He thinks that before forming an opinion on world events, people should acquire things like facts, historical context, and basic understanding of human morality and justice. Ridiculous. Who needs that stuff?
Anyway, there are a lot of aspects to this fight, and one of the key ones is territorial integrity. Here is my scorecard so far:
USA supports territorial integrity for Georgia.
USA does not support territorial integrity for Serbia.
USA strategically ambiguously supports territorial integrity for the Peoples Republic of China.
Israel supports territorial integrity for Georgia.
Israel does not support territorial integrity for Syria.
Azerbaijan and Armenia do not support each other's territorial integrity.
Nobody supports the territorial integrity of the Republic of China

Well, the joke got kind of confused in execution. Originally, I thought there was a point of humor in that when things erupted last week, I literally could not have found Georgia on an unmarked map for a million dollars. And the sum total of my knowledge about Georgia: Shevardnadze.
The Turton kicks the legs out from under the gag my sending me plenty of stuff to bring me up to speed. After that, I saw an article from the Jerusalem Post about Israel recognizing the territorial integrity of Georgia, and I thought surely there is enough irony there to squeeze out a sarcastic crack or two.
So, no solid point as such.
Its simply a function of nuclear weapons...if you have them, your territorial integrity is VERY VERY IMPORTANT. If you don't have them, well, its rather negotiable.
And I am not so sure Israel isn't hunky dory with Syria's territorial integrity - its just occupying the Golan Heights until the peace treaty exists to return it. Now, Palestine's integrity is a different matter.
What about bush's demand for an immediate ceasefire after a couple of days of hostility (when he lacks the leverage in the region to do so)?
I bet the lebanese are wishing he would have called off the israeli dogs so quickly last year (where he had the leverage to do so)...and maybe the israelis are post facto wishing the same thing given.
An American president with leverage over Israel... i like the way you think Bread...
