Pentagon officials tell NBC News that late last year, at the same time U.S. military police were allegedly abusing prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison, U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld ordered that one Iraqi prisoner be held ¡§off the books¡¨ ¡X hidden entirely from the International Red Cross and anyone else ¡X in possible violation of international law.
I'm just wondering- is this prisoner like that one played by Sean Connery in that movie The Rock? 'Cause if that's true, the part about the prisoner being "lost in the system" is troubling. What if a rogue general and a band of mercenaries take over an island tourist attraction somehwere and threaten a major city with chemical weapons? What then, huh? I don't think that the FBI chemical freak is going to be able to handle the situation by himself, Navy Seals notwithstanding. We might need this 'off the books' prisoner, convincing him to help us in exchange for a pardon that we will tear up as soon as he signs it.
Oh yeah, and the Pentagon's response:
Pentagon officials still insist Rumsfeld acted legally, but admit it all depends on how you interpret the law.
Well, it all depends on how you interpret the law! On that note, I'm off to shoot heroin and set up my own underaged prostitution ring.
