The Story of Oedipus, as seen by... a modern student? I don't know. (bad language, postmodern interpretation of Greek classic)

News related- My long-lapsed NRA certification as a smallbore riflery instructor has never been particularly useful or relevant in my life, but today it affords me the opportunity to offer some pertinent advice to the vice-president of the United States.
Mr. Cheney, the fundamental rules for safe gun handling are:
1. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
2. Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
3. Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.
Other relevant NRA gun rules are:
Know your target and what is beyond.
Know how to use the gun safely.
Never use alcohol or over-the-counter, prescription or other drugs before or while shooting.
Actually from one version I've seen, it sounds like the rule violated was to not engage birds that fly behind the hunter.
ReplyDeleteI don't even know that rule. I went quail hunting in Illinois once, and froze my Floridian ass off. Didn't get any quail either.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the instinctive thrill of deer hunting. Climbing into a tree stand at 4:00AM. The primal challenge of taking a buck with just a gun and my hunting skill. Well and also binoculars, a book, maybe a sandwich or two, a blanket, thermos of coffee, a roll of camo tape, and a deer call that I don't know how to use.
After about ten minutes I'll fall asleep in the tree stand, and drop my gun barrel-first into the mud below. Wake up about 9:00AM, retrieve gun, and head back to camp to drink beer for the rest of the day.
Best hunting there is.
